To help alleviate concerns about stratospheric ozone depletion caused by the release of chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) refrigerants, Carrier focuses its development efforts on products that use non-ozone-depleting refrigerants.
In 2003 alone, Carrier systems will avoid the use of 1,100 metric tons of ozone-depleting refrigerants, such as HCFCs. This is critical because scientists predict the Earth's ozone layer will remain vulnerable during the next decade.
Since 1990, Carrier's high efficiency residential air conditioning units sold in the U.S. have saved more than one million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. That's the equivalent of taking 235,000 automobiles off the road!
